Benjamin M. Betsalel is an american artist who has lived and worked abroad for the past ten years—crossing borders, creating large-scale portrait drawings and paintings, experimental abstractions, and a range of written communications (short first-person narratives from interviews with portrait project participants, poems and songs). Between traditional technique and chance-oriented procedure, his work investigates themes, such as the ever-changing nature of identity, notions of community that stem from shared experience (loss), climate change (the weather or not), and sense of place.
Betsalel studied drawing and painting at Savannah College of Art and Design (USA), water based paint and printmaking at University of Chester (U.K.) and is a 2004 Research Scholar graduate of the University of North Carolina-Asheville (USA). Betsalel has won various awards for his work and has shown in the USA, Europe, Africa and South America.
